Adding Your Own

Ready Made Cards

Ready Made Cards is a feature in HyperStudio where you can retrieve an already-made card from the Ready Made Card menu item, and insert it into a stack you’re working on, or even use that card as the starting point for a new stack.

Ready Made Card stacks are not limited to a single card, and you can also make “inserts” and “starters” for yourself that are made up of several cards.

The Ready Made Cards menu also supports sub-menus. That means that if there is a folder within the folder that holds the Ready Made Cards, either the ones built in to HyperStudio, or your own folder, then the menu item will show the folder name as its own menu item below which are the individual Ready Made Card stacks.

For example, there are a number of Comics templates which are in their own sub-menu, and appear in HyperStudio like this:

This is very useful as you start adding your own stacks to your Ready Made Cards collection.  Remember that a Ready Made Card is actually a stack, and can have more than one card in it. If you have title cards, menus, sections of presentations that you know you will re-use often, then putting them in the Ready Made Cards folder is a great way to keep your resources organized.  You can even make cards that just have often-used custom buttons, graphics, movies, etc.

Then, when you need one of your favorite elements in a stack, just add the Ready Made Card to bring in those resources, copy and paste them to the other cards, in your stack, and then delete the imported Ready Made Card!  It’s a very powerful technique that’s well worth your time to explore.

When you wish to add your own stack of a single (or multiple) cards to the Ready Made Cards menu, HyperStudio saves your stack in the folder:

Users/username/Library/Application Support/Software MacKiev/HyperStudio/Ready Made Cards.

Normally, you don’t need to know the actual pathname though, because you just use “Save As Ready Made Card” from the File menu in HyperStudio.

However, if you have a number of stacks that you wish to add to the Ready Made Cards menu, you can put cards directly into this library yourself, and the easiest way to do that is to use the Ready Made Cards alias folder in your Documents folder.  HyperStudio creates this alias when you install the software.

If you’d like to try this for yourself, click on the link below to download a compressed archive file of 11 Ready Made Cards that you can add to your own Ready Made Cards folder.  Most of these are blank cards that have useful sizes, such as the stack called “8.5 x 11 paper (portrait med-res)”. If there is no stack open, and you choose this, you’ll have a nice blank card perfectly sized to use for creating images to be printed on letter-sized paper.
